Places

Scholls, Oregon

This is where I live. It's not really a town, just an intersection of two main roads. Located about 20 miles southwest of Portland and 10 miles from Hillsboro, Sherwood, Newberg and Aloha, Oregon, I say it's halfway to everywhere, my husband says it's in the middle of nowhere. Although the shopping is limited; Scholls has plenty of wonderful farm fresh produce stands, u-picks, holiday events, and country fairs.

Hillsboro, Oregon

Home of the Washington County Courthouse, a wonderful farmers market, active downtown, and the new Civic Center. Hillsboro has some wonderful shopping with many small businesses and fantastic gift shops.

Hood River Valley & the Columbia River Gorge

Hood River Valley and the Columbia River Gorge are known for their spectacular views, hiking and of course windsurfing. Wonderful fruits and vegetables have been grown, processed, sold and distributed in the area for a multitude of years; however, it was windsurfing that really put the Gorge on the map and allowed the city of Hood River to grow and really prosper in the last 20 years.

Estate Sale Finder

This is a great resource for finding estate sales, auctions and antiques in Oregon and SW Washington. Usually estate sales have 50% off the lower priced items on the second day of the sale.

Shirley's Estate & Moving Sales

They have a mailing list that is a must for estate sale junkies like me.

Goodwill Outlet, Hillsboro, Oregon

2920 SW 234th Avenue

If you've never been to a Goodwill Outlet, this is a must see. The one in Hillsboro consists of a donation area and a large open area filled with rows of big grey bins about half of the bins are used clothing. They have an area in the back for larger items, mostly furniture. The outside has some shop and outdoor items. They have a row of dedicated to books which are priced 25 cents for paper backs and 50 cents for hard backs. People line up in anticipation of a new bin coming onto the floor. Watch out! It's a free-for all.
